About PicturePopPro :

English is not my first language, please excuse mistakes of my "Worldlish" :)

PicturePopPro (initialy named PicturePop) was born in 2001. It was one of the first contextual menu plugins for MacOS X, and the first picture viewer as contextual menu plugin for MacOSX. PPP2 is designed to work on all PowerPC macs, from 10.3.9 to 10.4.x, especially with less memory [on low configuration]. With Tiger, Apple has introduced a contextual menu with similar diaporama functionality but.. just test PPP2 and compare.. :) PPP2 offers fast browsing-viewing-searching-marking-actions. With the help of donations, PPP 2.0 is now ready for intel. Check donation page to learn more about it.

About 10.6 Snow Leopard and a future version 3 ? (updated 2009-09-06)

Leopard suppress the Contextual Menu Plugins feature, now CM Plugins must be implemented as System Services. So there will probably never be a PPP in its CM "Plugin" form. Perhaps an "app+system service" version will rise one day.

I'm sorry about this because i'm the first user of PPP and there's no way to get it work in Snow Leopard like it does from 10.1 to 10.5. I worked a long ago on the app version of PicturePopPro, a "PPPv3", but since Apple brought Finder's icons previews, QuickLook, CoverFlow and Preview software, PPP becomed useless for most people. But this v3 also began to use "Services" to allows beeing call with command-key shortcuts, so these step to adapt it on SL is thin. Although it has numerous bugs (it was adding a lots of functionalities), actually i'm asking myself about reborn it. Primary tests are sympatics but there a lot of work on it for a public distribution (too much ?). So.. at this time, short after the public distribution of SL, i don't know the future PPP...

More technical informations from my dev feed :
In Snow Leopard Apple decided to suppress the Contextual Menu -Plugins- feature. CM Plugins functionaly likes the Stuffit, Path Finder, Toast, PicturePopPro, LockPop, etc.. have ceased. SL now use System Services instead of CM Plugins to bring functionalities in contextual menus, but if the functionality needs a GUI, it have to use a compagnion App, witch is different in behaviors and possibilities from standalone app (in user experience too). Apple said that CM Plugins are unsupported in SL because of security issues. From my point of view, Apple don't want to spend time on cocoa's 64bits plugins code loading in SL and drop this support including plugins likes CM (No security problems have been reported since 10.0, so ..)

An alternative solution for 10.6 Snow Leopard user ? (updated 2009-09-10)

Abracode has developed a utility named "Shortcuts" that allows to show contextual menu item plugins in a special menu near the actual contextual menu (in the Finder). Actually it seems to be the only solution to get old CM plugins working on 10.6, but it isn't equivalent to CM Plugins's old way of use. I encourage you to test it.

Here's the link to Abracode webpage with essential information on how to install and use Shortcut.

Description :

PicturePopPro is a contextual menu plugin that shows pictures and QuickTime files directly from the Finder or any software that handle this kind of plugin. It helps you to quickly view numerous photos, navigate through a pictures folder, within multiple windows or in fullscreen. You can use the diaporama functionality, change the background color, change the desktop background picture with one click, read EXIF photographics tags,.. Take the time to understand all the functionalities and read the documentation, they're numerous and it would be dumb to use only 10% of it ;-)

PicturePopPro is not a software that is launched with a double-click, it's a contextual menu plugin that runs within the context of another program (usually the Finder) and this implies some constraint.

The "Read Me" file included in the PPP archive or help contains important information about status, problems, updates, ... Please take the time to check it :-)

Before reporting a problem, please check the miniforum, perhaps it has been already reported

What's new this the 2.0 final version ?

This version corrects the remaining bugs that have been reported to me since the p3 who was almost stable. Some crashes are possible with corrupted images files. Here is some of them :

• When changing Finder colors of marked files, new colors are correctly updated
• Move to Folder C now works again
• It's now possible to create a new destination folder from the select destination dialog
• "Diaporama" term has been corrected to "SlideShow"
• Keep pictures transformations as long as the window is opened
